Digital Work

During her time studying her BA (Hons) Performance degree at the University of the West of Scotland, Chloe selected and undertook a digital performance module in her first semester (2021). It was here where she discovered her love for creating digital performance media, and she thoroughly enjoyed being able to produce digitally created performances, which in turn helped her to develop her video editing skills. She has selected some pieces below that showcase the digital work she created as part of this module and for other university modules, and she speaks below on what influenced her in her creations.

My Digital Double was the first piece I created for the Digital Performance module. Our stimuli for this project invited us to explore how we would imagine the events of a meeting between you and your digital double. I used elements of horror and comedy in my piece, however I wanted the piece to have a more deeper meaning, exploring the ideas of identity, looking at feeling lost and understanding your matter in the world.

Liveness: The Call was another piece created for my Digital Performance module. Our stimuli for this project encouraged us to create a piece based on what the concept of 'liveness' meant to us. Having lived in the age where zoom meetings became the norm, I decided to base my idea of 'liveness' on the liveness of what happens before the real live event happens. I utilised the platform of zoom itself, and wrote a monologue, which explored the fears of one girl who was about to have her job interview over zoom but isn't quite sure if she actually is live on screen.

The Fear Zone was another piece created for my Digital Performance module. Our stimuli for this project required us to consider the themes of multi-media which I explored through narration, and intermediality which I explored through use of voice-over,unorganic sounds and multiple characters. With this piece, I took influence in my artistic styling from 'The Twilight Zone', utilising the horror aspects of the show to make a comedic story seems terrifying to the viewer. The piece follows a young girl, doomed to make a decision she will regret!

Contacting the Beyond: Infomercial is a scene from the final piece of work I created for my Digital Performance module. 'Contacting the Beyond' was the short film I created as part of the assessment for the module where a girl mourning the loss of her late friend is given the chance to speak to her friend via a online service that allows you to contact those who have died. This particular video shows the infomercial I created to advertise the company with the angel advertising the options. With this piece, I chose to make the scene almost feel 'heavenly' in its colour palette and music choice.

This was a piece created as part of my Testing Ideas module, where the criteria asked us to explore and communicate concepts and ideas. Suspected was created by a small group of us that explored the idea of a interactive murder mystery where the viewers were presented with information and asked to select the murderer. Yet, the overarching message was to not judge based on the preconceived stereotypes of an individual. This particular clip shows my character, Serena Peacock, who is being interviewed while using over-the-top stereotypical attributes, an aspect we decided to use for our characters as a way to subvert the viewer's thinking.
